What is Wire Art Jewelry?

Woven wire jewelry is a rare and ancient craft (speculation is that it began in early Egypt or Phoenicia). It is delicate in appearance yet quite durable.

The wire can be various sizes (gauges), shapes (square, round, half-round), materials (gold, gold-filled, silver, copper, brass), and hardnesses. I work with the finest quality in 14 karat gold-filled, sterling silver, and solid 14 karat jeweler's wire. Read more about the care and warranty on these different materials.

Another unique point of wire art is that the jewelry is made without any kind of soldering or casting (melting) of the metals. It is all held tightly together by the wire wraps themselves. Many people have asked me what kind of machine or jig is used to make the writing, but the truth is that my jewelry is simply made using my hands and very small jewely pliers. Each piece is truly individually handcrafted.

I'm one of only a few wire workers who produce the personalized wire-writing or name jewelry. I enjoy the wire-writing because more and more people have unique names or unique spellings of common names and therefore seldom find their names on anything, anywhere, much less in jewelry. Fortunately, I have the skills to do both the wire writing, wire sculpting, and gemstone wrapped settings.

As expected, it takes practice to be able to work with the wire and achieve consistency. Because each piece is made by hand, there are really no two pieces completely identical.
